Ruşen ALKAR

Starting her music education in Diyarbakır, Alkar continued her music career in Izmir. Since 2005, she participated in different album projects, alternative music festivals and many street performances under the name of The Association of Street Artists and Performers. Coloring her vocal style with improvisations and preferring a stage experience harmonized with instrumental expertise, Alkar, after performing 8 years in İstanbul now still performs at stages in Diyarbakır where she also lives.

Alkar has preferred to combine traditional Kurdish folk melodies with jazz and funk forms and brings a new understanding to the “modern” singing of Kurdish music with her vocal style. In her Kurdish and Turkish compositions, Alkar combines the political conundrums of her home country with a women’s perspective. Alkar combines the musical memory of the Kurdish geography where she was born with the technical possibilities of Western music and seeks to be integrated to the contemporary music scene with her vocals and improvisations.

Album SEBR (Patience) / KALAN 2015;

Ruşen Alkar released her first music album, named Sebr/Sabır (Patience), in October 2015 with Kalan Music. Her first music album Sebr, consists of Turkish and Kurdish compositions. Besides, there are two Kurdish folk songs that have been arranged with group music energy. The acknowledged musician of Turkish Rock Music History, composer and arranger Serdar Ateşer produced this album. Ayşe Tütüncü and Cem Aksel also took part in Sebr as guest musicians. Sebr won appreciation of music critics. Alkar has been performing music in Istanbul since 2015. She contributed many different music albums with her voice. She composed film music for independent Kurdish films. She has been performing at distinguished concert halls with her musician friends.

Album HÊDÎ HÊDÎ (Slowly ) /KALAN 2019;

Ruşen Alkar, meets us with her second music album Hêdî Hêdî. The album is produced by prolific composer and arranger of avant-garde music Şevket Akıncı. Hêdî Hêdî means Slowly. In the album Post Punk, Ambient', Contemporary jazz, Krautrock and Funk meets Kurdish traditional music. The local and the international mingle to make a creolization. Although Hêdî Hêdî can be generally defined within the Pop-Rock category, in terms of its vocalic universe, it is difficult to categorize it. Therefore it has a unique musical understanding. Hêdî Hêdî contains a hopeful darkness and an enthusiastic blues. Ruşen Alkar's distinctive style together with Şevket Akıncı's powerful arrangements exhibits a bold and tempting attitude in music.
