My internship supervisor and mentour was chief of the pediatric surgery centre Prof. Dr. İbrahim Ulman.

Pediatric operations & procedures I observed
throughout my internship at Ege University Children's Medical Center:

• Deturosorectomy on a congenital Spina Bifida patient with incontinence. The operation was performed for neuropathic bladder syndrome.
• Malignant osteosarcoma laparoscopic exscision surgery. The malignancy had spread to the lungs and pericardium of the patient. A team of pediatric pulmonologists and pediatric cardiovascular surgeons excised the tumour through an intercostal incision.
• Reconstructive bladder auto augmentation surgery on a patient with bladder extrophy. Tissues from the ileum were used to reconstruct the bladder.
• Urethra reconstruction -urethroplasty- of an abnormal urethra opening on a pediatric patient. (Hypospadias).
• Wound debridement operation for a necrotic burn patient.
• Urethra reconstruction -urethroplasty- of an abnormal urethra opening on a pediatric patient. (Proximal Hypospadias) & Circumcision.
• Laparoscopic excision of an extra lobar - intradiaphramatic - pulmunary sequestration on a 2-month-old patient. Additional unusual mucosal cystic tissue was excised. (Hamartoma)
• I attended the conference "Future of Medicine, Patientcare and AI" by Koç University Medical School's dean and chief medical officer. I attended the conference with the chief of pediatric surgery Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Ulman.
• I attended an orientation tour of the urodynamic testing lab in the pediatric urology department. I observed different imaging and diagnosing techniques for many urological disorders (especially for Spina Bifida and cerebral palsy patients). And understood the different treatment plans for each patient.
• Due to urinary stenosis on the urethra of a child, a urinary urethroplasty was performed to dilate the stenosed lesion.
• Laparoscopic excision of a left ovarian cyst on a 4-year-old pediatric patient.
• Esophagoscopy on a post-operative tracheoesophageal fistula patient presented with esophagal stenosis and gastric reflux. A stent was inserted into the oesophagus through endoscopy.
• Serious borderline ovarian tumour (teratoma) laparoscopic excision on a 14-year-old patient.
• Bronchoscopy on a reoccurring tracheoesophageal fistula on a neonatal patient. Fluroscopic imaging technique was used to diagnose a reoccurring fistula and a stent was inserted through endoscopy. Further surgery was delayed.
  Colostomy external bag opening (stoma) closure on a neonatal patient
• Urology operation on a pediatric patient with undescended testicle syndrome (cryptorchidism)
• Tracheaesophagul fistula (irregular connection of the trachea and oesophagus) ligation through an intercoastal incision on a 2-year-old patient.
• Unguis incarnatus operation to excise ingrown hair and clean infected wound puss.
• Reconstructive Kelly's operation to reconstruct the patient's bladder neck with a history of bladder extrophy.
• Circumcision procedure to remove the penis' foreskin.
• Esophagoscopy on a neonatal patient intubated for 6 months, diagnosed with oesophagal stenosis.
• Bronchoscopy and esophagoscopy on a newborn with esophageal atresia. An endoscopic dilation was performed.
• Esophagoscopy on a pediatric patient with tonsil cysts + esophageal culture sample was taken
• Bronchoscopy and esophagoscopy on a patient with reoccurring tracheoesophageal fistula and tracheomalacia.
  

My surgical observership of the pediatric surgery center was under the mentourship of Dr. Hilmican Ulman:

• I observed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) AND Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) procedures on post-operative and post-natal patients.
• Volunteered as an observer on laparascopic keyhole pediatric cyst and pediatric urology operations.

My internship supervisors and mentours were cheif of cardiovascular surgery center Prof. Dr. Şahin Bozok and Prof. Dr. Öcal Berkan.

Cardiovascular operations & procedures I observed
throughout my internship at Çiğli Research and Training Hospital:

• Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG×2) surgery. Saphenous and LIMA grafts are used for the bypass. Sternotomy and cardiopulmunary bypass was required for the operation. Grafts were anastamosed to the proximal and LAD coronary arteries.
• Vascular surgery of a Poplitieal artery blockage repair using an artificial graft to bypass the diseased vessle lession.
• Isolated valsalva aortic aneurysm on a middle aged patient. Benthall's shunt is used to replace the aneurysm lession of the aorta & a mechanic aortic valve replacment was also performed. Sternotomy and cardiopulmunary bypass was required.
• Quadruple coronarya artery bypass graft operation (CABG × 4). Saphenous vein and LIMA grafts were used to bypass the blocked blood vessels. Sternotomy and cardiopulmunary bypass was required for the operation. Diagonal Artery×LIMA.
• Mechanical mitral valve replacement. Sternotomy and cardiopulmunary bypass was used for the surgery
• Off-pump, beating heart coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG×1). Right Internal Mammary Artery anastamosed to the LAD. Sternotomy was required.
• Coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG×4). Saphenous vein and internal mammary artery grafts were used to bypass the blocked blood vessels. Sternotomy and cardiopulmunary bypass was required for the surgery.
• Arteriovenous fistula operation to form an irregular connection between the radial artery and the cephalic vein for a dialysis patient with hepatitis C.

My internship supervisor and mentor was the chief of the cardiac transplantation unit and mechanical assist devices Prof. Dr. Mustafa Özbaran.

Cardiovascular operations & procedures I observed throughout my internship at Ege University Cardiovascular Unit:

• -Biyoprotez Mitral Valve Replacement
  -3 CABG, Sternotomy & cardiopulmonaryIn atherosclerosisa bypass was required.
  -Cabg × 3, RcA-SVG, D1-SVG, LIMA-LAD
  
• Atherosclerosis vascular bypass operation, saphenous vein graft anastomosed to the femoral artery & a synthetic graft was also used to bypass the blocked vessel.
  
• [Ebstein's Anomaly]
  Emergency operation on a pediatric patient, a tricuspid valve reconstruction operation was planned but after a post-op ecocardiogram, a biologic valve transplant was proceeded.
  
• Radial artery fistula repair and blood vessel anastomosis.
  
• ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) was connected to a critical pediatric patient in the cardiac ICU.
  
• Minimally invasive endoscopic mechanical aortic valve replacement. Sternotomy wasn't required as the operation was performed through the intercoastal area.
  
• Congenital ventricular septal defect repair operation on a pediatric patient (VSD).
  
• [The patient had Arcus Anomaly]
  Aortic Coarctation Repair & PDA Ligation through an intercoastal incision on a 3 month old baby.
  
• Abdominal muscle flap operation
  
• CABG × 3 Radial artery and internal mammary artery grafts were used. Sternotomy wasn't required as the operation was performed in the intercostal area. Cardiopulmonary bypass machine was used throughout the surgery.
  
• Popliteal aneurysm vascular repair & saphenous vein graft distal bypass & embolectomy
  (Re-operation)

• My surgical observership on minimally invasive cardiovascular surgery was at Manisa Grand Medical Hospital under the supervision of the head of cardiovascular surgery Assoc. Prof. Adem Güler. I observed a minimally invasive direct double coronary artery bypass surgery performed through the intercoastal area. Heart-lung bypass machine was used throughout the bypass. Artery grafts for the bypass of the coronary arteries were procured from the right and left distal radial arteries.
  

• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat Ozyurtlu (Interventional Cardiologist):

-I attended 4 angiogram procedures through the femoral and radial arteries for coronary artery diseases (Dissection, thrombosis) with stent and balloon treatments in the Cath lab.

-Over 20 echocardiogram clinical patients with valvular and coronary arterial diseases (Aneurysms, regurgitation, lung cancer, Mitral Valve leak, Cardiac HypertrophyPanic attack, Mitral stenosis).

-NICU patient visit with severe atrial septal defect observed with ECG and pediatric echocardiograms (Interventional Cardiologist)

-Holter device and ECG report observations for cardiac diseases

• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adem Guler (Cardiac Surgeon):

-Post and preoperative treatment on patients with double minimally invasive coronary artery bypass graft & triple minimally invasive coronary artery graft operation (Cardiac Surgeon).

- Vein Procurement for CABG operations from the wrist and arms of the radial and saphenous veins

• Dr. Osman Uyar: Gastric sleeve operation performed laparoscopically
• Dr. Erdal Yermez (OBGYN): I attended 3 C-Section operations & infant resuscitations
• Dr. Omer Emre Yagli (Neurosurgeon): I attended spinal Disc Hernia and Lombarectomy procedures with the use of CT scans and microsurgical procedure

• (Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery)
  • Observed over 15 emergency clinical procedures and checkups on hand orthopaedics and trauma injuries.
  • Observed Hand Re-vascularization & Flap Operations of hand trauma.
  • Attended an orientation tour at EMOT Plus Hospital Physical Rehab centers on post operative patients.
