
Nigar Göksel has been the Türkiye/Cyprus Director of the International Crisis Group (ICG) since 2015, conducting research and pitching policy recommendations to decision makers on conflicts and security challenges in Turkey and its neighboring regions. Also serving as the legal Turkey Representative she has both overseen the operations of Crisis Group's Istanbul office for 9 years, and has been responsible for adapting policy lines to the rapidly changing regional context and domestic political space.
With over 25 years of active experience in the Turkish policy community, Nigar has held positions in prominent Turkish, European, and American civil society organizations and think tanks. Before joining Crisis Group, for 12 years she was Editor-in-Chief of the Istanbul-based policy journal, Turkish Policy Quarterly (TPQ). She was also Senior Analyst for Turkey and the South Caucasus at the European Stability Initiative (ESI), and prior to that, Turkey Representative of IREX (International Research and Exchanges Board).
Nigar began her career in Washington DC in 1998, working at the Embassy of Azerbaijan, and briefly at the DC office of the Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (TUSIAD-US). In 2001 she moved back to Istanbul to work as Project Director at TESEV (Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation) where she worked on East lay the grounds for 1.5 and 2nd track dialogue initiatives involving Turkey and its neighbors.
